Capt. Eliav Haim Tzaflamos, 21, from Haifa, was killed Thursday when a Humvee overturned during an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operation in the Litani River area of southern Lebanon, while three other soldiers were lightly wounded in the accident.
Tzaflamos served as a combat officer in the 603rd Battalion of the 7th Brigade. The three soldiers injured in the rollover were taken to a hospital for treatment, and their families were notified.
Two other IDF soldiers were lightly wounded in a separate operational accident in southern Lebanon earlier Thursday. A preliminary investigation indicated that improper handling of ammunition caused their injuries. Both soldiers were evacuated to a hospital, and their families were informed.
Thursday’s accidents came after several fatal operational incidents involving IDF troops in recent months.
Last month, Master Sgt. (res.) Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz, and Master Sgt. (res.) Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, were killed when an IDF drone exploded in the northern Gaza Strip. Both served in Battalion 7007 of the 16th Brigade.
An initial investigation into that incident determined that an operational malfunction involving the drone resulted in the deaths of Kali and Moalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted on X: “We are all mourning the fall of Captain Eliav Chaim Tzfalmus and praying for the recovery of three additional soldiers who were wounded in the severe accident in southern Lebanon.”
