President Donald Trump said the United States is considering joining Saudi strikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen after the group claimed attacks on Saudi airports, military facilities and oil infrastructure, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
“We may. We’re going to look at it,” Trump told reporters. “We just found out about the recent attack. So we’ll make a decision. We move very quickly.”
Asked about the attacks at the White House, President Trump said: “Not good. It’s not a good thing. I’m not happy about it.”
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport was hit Saturday, injuring several people and forcing authorities to suspend airport operations while the damage was assessed.
“This incident occurs against the backdrop of ongoing attacks targeting civil aviation facilities in the Kingdom. As a result of the attack, several people were injured and the full extent is under investigation,” the authority said.
“Airport operations have been temporarily suspended until completion of damage assessment and verification of facility safety, in coordination with the relevant authorities.”
Reports said many people were injured in Saturday’s attack, while embassies around the world warned their citizens against traveling through the airport. The site was evacuated and flights were halted following the strike.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry instructed travelers abroad who had been unable to reach their destinations in the Kingdom because of the disruption to contact Saudi missions in the countries where they were located for assistance.
Saturday’s attack followed another Houthi strike on King Khalid International Airport last Thursday that killed three people, according to Saudi Arabia’s Civil Aviation Authority.
The Houthis have also claimed attacks against other Saudi airports, military installations and oil infrastructure.
