Iran has renewed claims that it fired a new missile barrage toward US military positions in Jordan, according to a fresh regional report, though neither Jordanian nor US authorities had confirmed the reported attack or any resulting damage by early Wednesday.
The report said Iranian missiles were directed at facilities used by US forces and repeated Iranian assertions that some projectiles carried cluster warheads or penetrated air defenses. Those claims have not been independently verified, and there was no official indication of casualties or damage.
The alleged strike would mark another escalation in Iran’s campaign against US military assets in the region, which Tehran has presented as retaliation for American strikes on Iranian military and maritime targets during the conflict centered on the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in late August that it had used ballistic missiles against the King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases in Jordan after US forces struck Iranian launch sites on Larak Island. A US source said at the time that nearly all incoming missiles had been intercepted and that there had been no significant impact.
Iran has since claimed further attacks on US-linked facilities in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq. Tehran’s accounts of successful strikes, casualties, and extensive damage have repeatedly exceeded what regional governments or US officials have publicly confirmed.
Jordan has found itself exposed by its defense partnership with Washington and its position between Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. The kingdom hosts US personnel at Jordanian facilities under security and training arrangements, including bases used in regional surveillance and air operations.
A recent Associated Press report described Jordan as a target of repeated Iranian drone and missile attacks because of its alliance with the United States, while noting that US and Jordanian air defenses have intercepted many incoming projectiles.
The new claim surfaced as the US and Iran traded further blows at sea. US strikes on Iranian oil tankers followed attempted missile attacks on a US Navy ship, and Tehran threatened energy infrastructure and shipping in the Gulf.
Jordanian and US officials had not issued a public statement on the latest reported barrage.
