Palestinian factions participating in talks in Cairo have reached a consensus to postpone the scheduled Palestinian elections, with an official announcement expected in the coming period, according to Islamic Jihad.

Mohammed al-Hindi, the movement’s deputy secretary-general, said the meetings hosted by Egypt had resulted in an agreement among Palestinian factions to delay the elections as part of broader understandings aimed at addressing national issues and continuing internal dialogue.

Al-Hindi said the Fatah delegation would return to Ramallah to follow up on the understandings reached during the meetings.

He added that a new election date would be determined through consensus among the various Palestinian factions.

According to al-Hindi, participants also agreed to continue national dialogue in the coming period to strengthen Palestinian consensus and address outstanding political issues.
