A 28-year-old woman preparing for her wedding has died after a horrifying accident involving a bowling alley machine, turning what should have been one of the happiest periods of her life into tragedy.
Melike Yeter, who had become engaged just three months earlier, was working at a children’s entertainment center in Çorum, Turkey, when a malfunctioning bowling pin-setting machine suddenly struck her as she attempted to fix it.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, October 20, when Yeter was reportedly trying to resolve a problem with the equipment responsible for collecting and resetting bowling pins. The machinery unexpectedly moved, striking her with enough force to cause devastating internal injuries.
Yeter was taken to Hitit University Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital, where doctors discovered that she had suffered a ruptured liver and serious internal bleeding. Despite emergency treatment and efforts to save her life, she died the following day.
But the tragedy has taken another troubling turn, with questions emerging about what happened after Yeter arrived at the hospital.
Initial reports from Turkish media claimed she had been discharged following her first examination, only to become seriously ill afterward. However, the Çorum Medical Association strongly disputed those accounts, insisting that Yeter remained under medical supervision throughout her treatment.
According to the association, doctors recognized changes in her condition, ordered additional tests and discovered the life-threatening internal injuries. She subsequently underwent surgery and received intensive care, but could not be saved.
Local media have also reported an investigation into aspects of her emergency treatment, although no official finding of medical negligence has been announced.
Meanwhile, authorities have arrested the 34-year-old owner of the entertainment center in connection with the fatal workplace accident. The owner, identified in several Turkish reports by the initials F.B., was taken into custody before appearing before a judge, who ordered his detention.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the machinery accident, including how the equipment was operating when Yeter attempted to address the malfunction. The full sequence of events and responsibility for the accident have not yet been publicly established.
Adding to the heartbreak, Yeter had reportedly been looking forward to married life after becoming engaged only three months before her death. Her fiancé was said to have desperately sought medical help as her condition deteriorated.
Family members and loved ones gathered Thursday to say their final goodbyes. Following funeral prayers at Akşemseddin Mosque, Yeter was laid to rest at Ulu Cemetery in Çorum.
Her death has left a grieving family awaiting answers about how an ordinary shift at a family entertainment center could end in such a devastating loss.
