Kai Trump’s ESPYs red carpet moment got people talking — but not just because of her glittering gold gown.
The 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump stepped out at the 2026 ESPYs in a floor-length gold dress, complete with a high slit, silver detailing near the collar, a pearl necklace, gold cuffs, white nails, and loose blonde hair worn below her shoulders.
But as photos from the event circulated online, critics quickly zeroed in on something else: her deep orange tan.
Some social media users compared Kai’s bronzed look to her famous grandfather’s long-running reputation for having an orange-toned complexion. One person claimed she had “her grandpa’s tan,” while others joked that the look seemed to run in the family.
Kai’s bright white smile also became part of the online chatter. Some critics questioned whether her teeth were veneers, while others compared her smile to that of her father, Donald Trump Jr.
“She has her dad’s smile,” one person observed online.
The comparisons did not stop there. Kai was also likened to her mother, Vanessa Trump, who is now dating golf legend Tiger Woods.
While some of the commentary focused on her outfit and red carpet styling, much of the attention turned into the kind of brutal online mockery that often follows high-profile political families.
Kai, who is often described online as a “nepo baby,” attended the sports awards ceremony as an up-and-coming golfer. Not everyone agreed with her appearance at the event, since she has not yet officially started her college athletic career.
Kai recently graduated from high school and is expected to begin her freshman year at the University of Miami in the fall, where she is set to play on the women’s golf team.
That detail only fueled more criticism from people who claimed her famous last name helped land her a spot on the red carpet.
“Milking the family name for all its worth,” one critic scoffed.
The ESPYs, hosted by ESPN, honor major names and standout moments in sports each year. Kai was not nominated for an award and appeared to be attending as one of many celebrity and sports-adjacent guests.
This year’s event drew several athletes and nominees, including Alysa Liu, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, KK Harvey, Laila Edwards, and others.
Still, Kai’s appearance ended up becoming one of the more talked-about red carpet moments online — not because of a trophy, but because critics could not stop comparing her look to the Trump family’s most recognizable features.
