Liam Payne’s final hours were allegedly filled with drugs, alcohol and violent outbursts before the former One Direction star plunged to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina, according to newly revealed witness statements.
Two women who were with Payne shortly before his death told investigators the 31-year-old singer appeared heavily intoxicated and became increasingly erratic inside his room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires.
Payne died on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling about 46 feet from a third-floor balcony.
Aldana Serrano, 32, and Lucila Goitea, 29, reportedly gave sworn statements to authorities describing a chaotic encounter with the pop star in the hours before the tragedy.
According to the women, Payne became furious during a dispute over their $5,000 fee.
But they claimed his mood quickly shifted, with the singer allegedly dropping to his knees and begging them not to leave.
The women said Payne told them that having money did not make him happy.
They also claimed he smashed an expensive gold Rolex watch during the encounter, allegedly boasting afterward that he could easily replace it.
Things reportedly became even more destructive when Payne allegedly punched the television in his hotel room several times.
Despite the increasingly troubling scene, the women said Payne also sang some of his own songs for them and spoke about his young son, Bear, whom he shared with former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole.
Goitea told investigators Payne ordered champagne for the women while drinking two bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky himself.
She also claimed the singer appeared to be using drugs and repeatedly asked whether they could get him more.
According to Goitea, Payne appeared high on cocaine and smelled strongly of alcohol.
She said the pair had consensual sex with Payne once during their time in the room and that protection was used.
Authorities have previously said toxicology testing found cocaine, alcohol and the prescription sedative clonazepam, commonly sold under the brand name Klonopin, in Payne’s system.
Investigators believe Payne was alone when he fell from the balcony.
His girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had left Argentina days earlier and returned to the United States.
The two women reportedly cooperated fully with investigators after Payne’s death and have not been accused of causing his fatal fall.
The investigation has focused heavily on how Payne obtained drugs during his stay at the hotel.
Two men have faced accusations of supplying drugs to the singer, though they have denied wrongdoing.
Payne’s shocking death sent waves through the music world and devastated millions of One Direction fans who had followed his rise to fame alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik.
Now, the disturbing witness accounts are offering an even darker picture of the hours leading up to the singer’s fatal fall — describing a superstar allegedly spiraling behind the closed doors of his Buenos Aires hotel room.
