Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s rejection of the displacement of Palestinians during talks with representatives of several American Jewish organizations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, according to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
The meeting took place as Abdelatty attended the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to the ministry, Abdelatty emphasised Egypt’s commitment to its strategic relationship with the United States and expressed Cairo’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The discussions also addressed developments across the Middle East, with Abdelatty stressing the importance of resolving regional conflicts through diplomacy and political negotiations.
He said peaceful settlements were necessary to strengthen regional and international security and stability.
Abdelatty pointed to the Egypt-Israel peace treaty as an example of what he described as Egypt’s longstanding strategic commitment to pursuing peace in the region.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict featured prominently in the discussions. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s opposition to any displacement of Palestinians and reviewed Cairo’s diplomatic efforts related to the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to the ministry, the Egyptian foreign minister highlighted Cairo’s coordination with international mediators in efforts to reduce the escalation in Gaza, secure a ceasefire and advance subsequent diplomatic initiatives.
He also referred to the peace summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh last year as part of Egypt’s broader efforts to promote a political resolution to the conflict.
