Morocco announced on Thursday an increase of 25 per cent in direct financial support for workers in the transport sector, aiming to reduce the economic impact of the sharp rise in global fuel prices, in the context of the US-Israeli war on Iran and its wider effects on energy supplies.

This came in a statement issued by the Moroccan Ministry of Transport, seen by Anadolu.

The statement said: “The government has decided to launch a new tranche of support for road transport professionals, increasing its value by 25 per cent.”

It added: “Registration for this additional support will begin on 22 April, through a dedicated electronic platform.”

On 18 March, the Moroccan government decided to provide direct financial assistance to workers in the transport sector.

Fuel prices have surged in several countries since 28 February, including Morocco, which is highly exposed to global market fluctuations as it imports around 94 per cent of its energy needs.

Earlier on Thursday, fuel stations in Morocco raised fuel prices by around 7 per cent, amid severe disruptions in global supplies due to the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.
