Country music icon Ray Stevens is on the mend after a frightening accident that sent shockwaves through Nashville and beyond.
The 87-year-old Grammy winner was rushed to a hospital in Nashville after suffering a fall that left him with a broken neck, according to a statement released Tuesday. The incident reportedly happened on Sunday, sparking immediate concern among fans of the longtime entertainer.
Despite the severity of the injury, there’s a surprising twist — Stevens is said to be in good spirits and remains fully mobile as he begins his recovery. Doctors have instructed the country legend to wear a neck brace for approximately four weeks as a precaution.
Even more remarkable? His upcoming album, Favorites Old & New, is still set to drop as planned later this week, signaling that the show must go on for the resilient performer.
The latest health scare comes less than a year after Stevens battled a heart attack that required surgery. At the time, he was hospitalized after complaining of chest pain and later underwent a successful procedure following a heart catheterization. His performances were temporarily put on hold as he recovered.
In recent years, Stevens had hinted at slowing down. Back in early 2024, he told fans he would step away from regular performances at his beloved CabaRay Showroom — only to reverse course months later and return to the stage to promote new music.
A staple of American country music for decades, Stevens launched his career as a teenager and went on to work alongside legends like Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton. He earned his first Grammy in 1971 and has remained a beloved figure in the industry ever since.
Offstage, Stevens shared a decades-long marriage with his late wife, Penny Jackson Ragsdale, who passed away in 2021. Together, they raised two daughters.
Now, fans are rallying behind the country star once again — hoping this latest scare will be just another chapter in his long, resilient story.
