The woman who helped bring Christmas magic to life on screen has taken her final bow.
Marcia Ann Burrs, a familiar face to Hallmark fans and longtime TV viewers, has died at the age of 85. According to her family, the veteran character actress passed away on March 22 in Matthews, North Carolina, surrounded by loved ones.
Best known for her warm and spirited portrayal of Mrs. Claus in the Hallmark favorites Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus (2004) and its sequel Meet the Santas (2005), Burrs became a quiet staple of holiday movie tradition for many families.
But her career stretched far beyond Christmas.
Over more than three decades in Hollywood, Burrs built an impressive résumé, popping up in hit shows across nearly every era of television. Viewers may recognize her from appearances in Mad Men, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Gilmore Girls, Frasier, Monk, Scrubs, and even It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
She also made her mark on the big screen, appearing in films like Rumor Has It…, The Bling Ring, and Izzy Gets the F—k Across Town.
Born Marcia Hoffman on November 25, 1940, in Manila, Philippines, Burrs discovered her love of acting early, performing in school plays before studying drama at the College of William & Mary. She later moved to New York, where she cut her teeth in theater, commercials, and soap operas before heading west to pursue her Hollywood dream.
Off-screen, her family says her greatest role wasn’t one audiences ever saw.
In a touching obituary, loved ones described her as a “much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and lifelong performer” who lived with “heart, humor, creativity and an unapologetic toughness.” They added that while she loved acting, being a mother was the role she cherished most.
“She taught her kids that life was limitless, rules were optional, and you could do anything,” her family shared. “She lived it, she meant it, and she passed it on like a family superpower.”
Burrs is survived by her children, Jennifer and Diana, her sons-in-law, her grandchildren, and several siblings. Her husband of more than five decades, NBC executive Joe Bures, died in 2020.
A private service will be held to honor her life, but her legacy—especially during the holiday season—will continue to live on for years to come.
