A South Korean wife is behind bars after a violent act of revenge that feels ripped straight from a true-crime movie. Authorities say the 58-year-old woman sliced off her husband’s genitals and flushed them down a café toilet because she believed he was cheating.
The attack happened after the 50-year-old husband fell asleep while drinking alone at a coffee shop. Police say the wife arrived with her 40-year-old son-in-law, tied the man up with rope and industrial tape, and stabbed him around 50 times before severing his manhood and disposing of it in the bathroom.
Despite the brutality, the victim survived after emergency surgery — and even stunned the courtroom by urging the judge to show her mercy. He reportedly asked for leniency before sentencing. She received seven years in prison, and the son-in-law got four.
The case immediately drew comparisons to the infamous 1993 Lorena Bobbitt scandal in the United States, when Lorena cut off husband John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis and tossed it out a car window. Unlike the South Korean case, police were able to recover John’s severed organ, and surgeons successfully reattached it.
Lorena later said years of verbal, physical, and sexual abuse pushed her over the edge, insisting she had no regrets and was “not in the right mindset.” A jury eventually acquitted her after determining she was temporarily insane at the time. John denied the abuse allegations and has long said he just wants closure.
As for the latest case, doctors say there was no chance of reattachment — the flushed remains were never found. The husband continues to recover from long-term physical and emotional trauma.
