The US State Department announced on Wednesday that Syria would no longer be subject to a policy of denying licenses and other approvals required for the export of military equipment and defence services.

“Syria has been removed from the list of countries subject to a policy of denying licenses and permits required for the export of military equipment and defence services,” the State Department said in a statement.

The department said the change would allow the US administration to consider applications for such licenses involving Syria.

The amendment is set to take effect on 1st October.

The move follows a US decision in late August to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
