Three Israeli Border Police officers were wounded near the Palestinian villages of Jalud and Kusra near Nablus while security forces confronted about 100 Israeli rioters who blocked roads, threw stones, and set fire to Palestinian property, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
Border Police officers were escorting a Palestinian family back to its home after rioters reportedly harassed the family into leaving. Family members alleged they had been subjected to repeated crimes.
During the unrest, rioters blocked roads and burned tires while hurling rocks at security forces. The IDF said Palestinian-owned structures, vehicles and other property in the area were also set on fire.
According to IDF reserve officers, the incident continued until around 2:30 a.m. Three troops were wounded by stones thrown during the confrontation. Settlers also set fire to a Palestinian vehicle and a home in the area.
Palestinian media reported that rioters torched the home belonging to the Palestinian family that had been threatened into evacuating. According to those reports, the arson occurred while Border Police officers were accompanying the family back to the property and was intended to prevent the family from returning.
Authorities detained multiple suspects following the violence, including three Israelis linked to the rioting and arson. The three were transferred to police for questioning.
The security establishment condemned the violence, saying the criminal activity diverts security personnel from counterterrorism operations and other defense duties.
