A cross-country flight carrying actor Andrew Garfield was forced to make an emergency landing Wednesday after the crew detected a troubling smoky odor coming from the cockpit.
The Spider-Man and The Social Network star was traveling from Los Angeles to New York City aboard a Delta Boeing 767 when the flight was suddenly diverted to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to Delta, the crew noticed what the airline described as a “smoky odor” during the flight. The plane landed safely at Albuquerque International Sunport, and there were no reports of injuries.
Garfield was far from the only recognizable face on board.
Actor Owen Thiele, known for his role in Adults, documented the unexpected ordeal on Instagram and joked about how the passenger list might have been described if the situation had taken a darker turn.
“Andrew Garfield on my flight,” Thiele wrote alongside a selfie before pointing out that actor Nick Robinson was also aboard.
Thiele later shared updates from Albuquerque as passengers waited to be placed on another flight.
Love Island USA star Dylan Wrona, singer Mark Ambor and Robinson were also reportedly among the passengers caught up in the diversion.
Delta apologized to travelers for the disruption and said the aircraft was diverted because of the odor.
The airline said it was working to accommodate passengers and get them to their final destinations as quickly as possible.
Despite the frightening midair scare, the flight landed without incident and Garfield and the other passengers were able to safely leave the aircraft.
