Rod Stewart gave fans a scare during a concert in Utah after he appeared to struggle on stage and needed help from an oxygen tank before continuing the show.

The 81-year-old rock legend was performing Friday night at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater in West Valley City when he suddenly slowed down and appeared unsteady, according to photos and video shared by TMZ.

At one point, Stewart seemed to hold himself up on stage equipment as attendants rushed over to help him. He then took several deep breaths from an oxygen tank before appearing to recover.

The “First Cut Is the Deepest” singer eventually continued the concert, though he performed while seated.

Stewart also managed to make light of the frightening moment, reportedly telling the crowd that he had “dang near fainted,” drawing laughs from fans.

It remains unclear what caused the health scare. West Valley City sits about 4,300 feet above sea level, and higher altitude can sometimes cause breathing issues, especially for performers exerting themselves on stage.

The moment comes after Stewart recently postponed and canceled several shows because of health problems.

Earlier this month, he announced that some of his Caesars Palace performances in Las Vegas would be rescheduled after his doctor “ordered a bit more rest” while he recovered from the flu.

Days later, Stewart canceled four shows and postponed two more in Nevada and California.

“So sorry, my friends. I’m devastated and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to my fans,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “I’ll be back on stage and we’ll see you soon – Sir Rod💔.”

Despite the recent setbacks, Stewart has still delivered several strong performances. He recently sang in Phoenix and performed at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where he told the crowd, “This is my last time here, so let’s have a party tonight.”

The Utah scare also comes as Stewart continues his “One Last Time Tour,” which began in 2024 and is expected to mark a major farewell chapter in his legendary career.

Stewart is among a group of older music icons who have continued performing well into their later years, alongside stars such as Mick Jagger, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Cher, and Kenny Loggins.

For fans in Utah, the night turned tense for a few moments — but Stewart’s decision to keep singing after nearly fainting only added to his reputation as one of rock’s most determined performers.
