Warren Beatty has spent decades as one of Hollywood’s most magnetic and mysterious stars, but even as he celebrates his 89th birthday, his name is still stirring up headlines for more than just his legendary film career.

The Bonnie and Clyde icon, who turned 89 on March 30, has become increasingly private in recent years, rarely stepping into the spotlight. But long before he embraced a quieter life, Beatty was one of the most talked-about leading men in Hollywood — with a dating history that has fueled gossip for generations.

Over the years, Beatty was romantically linked to a stunning list of famous women, including Joan Collins, Madonna, Diane Keaton and Natalie Wood. His reputation as a ladies’ man became so massive that author Peter Biskind once claimed in his 2010 book Star: How Warren Beatty Seduced America that the actor had slept with 12,775 women over four decades.

Beatty later brushed off the jaw-dropping figure with his trademark humor. In a 2016 interview with Esquire, he joked that the number simply didn’t add up, pointing out that it would have required multiple partners a day with no repeats.

Still, Beatty himself admitted that fame opened doors. Speaking to People in 2016, he reflected that his celebrity status gave him access to “admirable women” who were not only beautiful, but also talented, intelligent and accomplished. It was a rare moment of candor from a man whose personal life has always fascinated the public.

And then there is Barbra Streisand.

The entertainment world was stunned when Streisand revealed in her 2023 memoir My Name Is Barbra that she once shared a bed with Beatty after meeting him when she was a teenager and he was already in his early 20s. What truly sent shockwaves through Hollywood was her stunning admission that she could not fully remember whether the relationship ever became sexual.

“I kind of remember. I guess I did. Probably once,” she wrote, leaving readers hanging on every word.

Then, in a June 2025 interview with The New Yorker, Streisand doubled down on the eyebrow-raising confession, saying she still could not say for sure what happened between them. She insisted there were parts of that time she had blocked out, making the revelation even more bizarre and irresistible to celebrity-watchers.

Despite the renewed buzz, Beatty’s wife, Annette Bening, has reportedly not been rattled by the chatter. According to an insider, she does not feel threatened by Streisand’s comments, though the same source suggested Streisand’s husband, James Brolin, may not have been thrilled to hear such intimate reflections dragged back into public view.

For Beatty, though, the chapter that truly changed everything began in 1990, when he met Bening during the casting process for Bugsy. By then, he was already a Hollywood institution in his mid-50s, while she was a rising star in her early 30s. Their connection was immediate.

Beatty later admitted he fell for her almost instantly, saying it took only minutes for him to know something had shifted. At the same time, he acknowledged that meeting Bening marked the end of a long, wild era in his life. He openly reflected on leaving behind the thrill of his old playboy ways, saying that phase of his life finally came to a close just in time.

The couple married in 1992 and went on to build a family together, welcoming four children: Stephen, Benjamin, Isabel and Ella.

These days, Beatty is far removed from the fast-moving celebrity life that once defined him. In fact, his retreat from public view has only deepened his mystique. He has rarely been seen in the last decade and has not appeared onscreen since 2016, when he fittingly played billionaire recluse Howard Hughes in Rules Don’t Apply.

Bening, meanwhile, continues to work and remains one of Hollywood’s most respected actresses. Still, insiders say family comes first for her, and that she has made sacrifices to keep their home life steady as Beatty has settled into an increasingly secluded routine.

At 89, Warren Beatty may be living far from the cameras now, but the fascination surrounding his love life, legendary past and stunning Hollywood stories clearly has not faded one bit.
