Vatican Suspends Canonization Ceremony for Millennial Teen Carlo Acutis

Share

The Vatican has announced the suspension of a highly anticipated canonization ceremony for Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old Italian boy who passed away from leukemia in 2006 and was poised to become the first saint of the millennial generation.

Originally scheduled for April 27 in St. Peter’s Square, the ceremony has been put on hold following the recent death of Pope Francis. In a statement released Monday, Vatican officials cited the need to reassess ceremonial plans in light of the Pope’s passing.

Carlo Acutis, widely admired for his devout faith and early embrace of digital evangelism, was beatified in 2020. His path to sainthood has resonated deeply with young Catholics around the world. A new date for the canonization has yet to be announced.
