Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is in the final months of his current contract, and as of now, he has yet to agree on a new deal to extend his stay at Anfield.
Speculation is mounting about his future, with reports suggesting that if he becomes a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season, Barcelona could be a potential destination as they look to strengthen their defense.
Amid the uncertainty, the 33-year-old Dutch defender recently provided an update on his situation. Speaking to Sky Sports, he shared his perspective on the ongoing contract discussions.
“In the coming months, we just have to give it our all. We are still competing on three fronts, and that remains my primary focus,” Van Dijk stated.
“Unfortunately, I can’t discuss personal conversations with the club. We’ve been talking for a while, and all I can say is that I love this club. I’m very calm about the situation, and as long as I am, the fans can be too. If there’s any news, you’ll hear about it. For now, I genuinely don’t know where I’ll be playing next season, but I’m at peace with it.”
Van Dijk isn’t the only star whose contract situation is causing concern. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also approaching free agency, and Liverpool will need to act swiftly to prevent them from leaving for free.
Rumors continue to swirl around Salah’s potential transfer to Saudi Arabia, while Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
