Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday morning in Rome, marking the two leaders’ initial interaction following their unfortunate meeting at the White House in February.
Zelenskyy characterized the meeting as a valuable discussion and noted that extensive one-on-one conversations took place. The White House deemed it “a highly productive dialogue.”
Trump and Zelenskyy are currently in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis. Their meeting occurred prior to the commencement of the funeral proceedings.
“President Trump and President Zelenskyy met privately today and engaged in a substantive discussion,” stated Steven Cheung, White House communications director. “Further details regarding the meeting will be provided subsequently,” he added.
“Hoping for results on everything we covered,” Zelenskyy expressed in a social media post following their meeting. “We are so deeply committed to protecting the lives of our people. Our aspirations for a full and unconditional ceasefire reflect a desire for reliable and lasting peace, ensuring that we never have to face the threat of another war.”
