Senior US officials have reportedly indicated that the military could be prepared to launch strikes against Iran within days, as President Donald Trump weighs his options. According to several American media outlets, national security advisers have told Trump that forces could be ready for action from Saturday.

The president has not yet taken a final decision and continues to consult senior advisers. At the same time, the White House is assessing the risks of further destabilising the region, as well as the political and strategic consequences of either proceeding with or refraining from military action. This comes despite ongoing nuclear discussions between Washington and Tehran in Geneva, which have reportedly exposed significant differences.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that US bases such as Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford could be used if Iran refuses to reach an agreement. One adviser told Axios there was a strong likelihood of “kinetic action” within weeks, although others have urged caution.

US media report that any operation would likely involve close coordination with Israel and could develop into a prolonged campaign. The deployment of the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier to the eastern Mediterranean is seen as an important factor in determining timing.
