UPDATED: UEFA Champions and Europa League Draws

Bayern Munich will face big German rivals Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid will meet neighbours Atletico Madrid in blockbuster Champions League last 16 encounters following Friday’s draw.

English league leaders Liverpool will take on French tabletoppers Paris Saint Germain over two legs while Barcelona meet Benfica in March.

Club Brugge’s reward for beating Europa League champions Atalanta in the play-offs is a two-legged clash against Aston Villa while last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund will play Lille.

PSV Eindhoven knocked out twice champions Juventus in midweek and next face Arsenal, leaving Inter drawn with Feyenoord, who just beat their city rivals AC Milan.

The seeded teams who finished in the top eight of the league phase will be at home in the second legs on March 11 and 12, with the first legs coming a week earlier.

The top eight from the new league phase qualified automatically while the other sides won two-legged play-offs over the last two weeks.

Although a bracket is being used for the knockout stages of the revamped Champions League, a draw was still introduced to add excitement and avoid manipulation of finishing spots in the league.

The top eight teams were paired and the draw was used to decide which side of the bracket each of the top eight would inhabit.

Bayern, who host this season’s final on May 31, therefore already knew they would face Leverkusen or Atletico.

Leverkusen, who ended Bayern’s 11-year reign as German champions last term, dominated their recent Bundesliga clash but had to settle for a 0-0 draw against the current leaders.

The game will be the biggest European clash between German sides since Bayern beat Dortmund in the 2013 Champions League final.

“Game on,” Bayern wrote on X.

The bracket means the two sides will play the winners of Feyenoord v Inter in the quarter-final.

Real and Atletico clashed in the Champions League final in 2014 and 2016, with record champions Real winning both – one via extra time and one on penalties.
