Several individuals lost their lives in Vancouver on Saturday. Numerous others sustained injuries. A driver violently drove into a crowd attending a Filipino street festival in the western Canadian city. Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed that all Canadians are “in mourning,” coming just days before the country’s federal election.
Vancouver police were reported saying that they are ‘confident’ that the incident was not an act of terrorism.
The individual reportedly drove his vehicle into the gathering at the Vancouver festival. He has been identified as a “lone suspect.” Law enforcement recognizes him, as stated by a police spokesperson to journalists present at the scene. No further details were provided.
The individual was promptly detained by bystanders at the location, as stated by Acting Police Chief Steve Rai.
The police chief refrained from providing a specific count of fatalities. He did not specify the number of injuries. He stated, “There are still family members who must be notified.”
