Global tech powerhouse Microsoft has announced a $1 million initiative aimed at equipping one million Nigerians with Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills over the next two years.

This ambitious project was unveiled by Ola Williams, Microsoft’s Country Manager for Nigeria and Ghana, during the Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos on Wednesday.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the initiative, Williams emphasized the importance of AI education in creating sustainable job opportunities and ensuring Nigerian youth can compete on a global scale.

“I am so delighted to announce that as Microsoft in Nigeria, we will be investing one million dollars in the next two years to empower one million Nigerians with AI tools,” she stated.

The initiative goes beyond just teaching people how to use AI—it aims to enable Nigerians to build AI-powered solutions and businesses that can drive innovation and economic growth.

“This is a significant investment in our drive to ensure that everyone has access to the right skills required not just to use AI but to build solutions on AI, build businesses on AI that will be a sustainable means of livelihood for Nigerians and give Nigerian youths the opportunity to compete globally with their counterparts,” Williams added.

The Microsoft AI Tour serves as a platform to discuss the future potential of AI and its impact across various industries, from finance and healthcare to education and agriculture. With AI becoming an integral part of modern economies, initiatives like this ensure that Nigeria is not left behind in the global tech revolution.
