Two policemen, woman injured as cars crash during police chase

A young woman and two police officers sustained minor injuries in a serious car crash early Sunday, which also damaged several parked vehicles. The accident occurred shortly after 1:30 am at the junction of Triq Tarxien and Triq is-Sorijiet in Tarxien, according to an eyewitness. The police vehicle was in pursuit when it collided with a Fiat 500 driven by a 25-year-old woman returning from the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage before crashing into parked cars, one of which was severely impacted. The woman was taken to hospital in shock, while the two officers required medical attention. One reportedly suffered a broken nose, while the other sustained a minor head injury. (Times of Malta)

300 submission on labour migration policy

The Labour Party announced that the government had received around 300 submissions during the public consultation on the Malta Labour Migration Policy. Prime Minister and Labour Leader Robert Abela reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting quality tourism. During a visit to The Westin Dragonara Resort in St Julian’s, he toured the hotel’s recent €50 million investment aimed at enhancing its offerings. Resort General Manager Michael Camilleri Kamsky outlined ongoing projects, including a reverse osmosis system supplying the hotel’s water needs and energy-efficient equipment to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. PN promises more investment in athletes, Ministry focused on sport

Opposition leader Bernard Grech announced that a Nationalist government would establish a dedicated sports ministry and increase investment in athletes. Speaking at the Mediterranean College of Sports in Birkirkara, he emphasised that sport would be a priority, with a minister solely focused on the sector. Grech highlighted the essential role of sports federations and pledged financial support, including funding for full-time employees within federations. He also stressed the importance of local councils in making sports and physical activity more accessible to people of all ages. (Maltatoday)
