French President Emmanuel Macron said that a war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran would not provide a lasting solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, urging a return to diplomacy.

Speaking to reporters during a state visit to South Korea, Macron stressed that “a targeted military operation, even if it lasts only a few weeks, will not provide a permanent solution to the nuclear issue.”

He warned that without a framework for diplomatic and technical negotiations, the situation could deteriorate again within months or years, emphasizing that only sustained negotiations and a comprehensive agreement can ensure long-term stability and monitoring.

Macron added that proposals to “liberate” the Strait of Hormuz through military action are unrealistic, cautioning that such an operation would be prolonged and highly risky.

He explained that any attempt to secure the strait by force would expose shipping and military forces to significant threats, including capabilities possessed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, such as coastal defences and ballistic missiles.

The French president reiterated that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving the crisis and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
