At least two people were injured after three Iranian drones targeted the passenger terminal at Nakhchivan International Airport on Thursday, according to Azerbaijan authorities.
Officials said one drone struck the airport terminal while another crashed near a school in the village of Shakarabad, causing damage and injuring two civilians. Authorities strongly condemned the attack, saying the drones were launched from the territory of Iran.
Videos circulating online show a drone approaching the airport, followed by an explosion and visible damage to the main terminal building, with emergency crews responding at the scene.
The government in Baku said it had requested an official explanation from Tehran “within the shortest possible timeframe” and demanded assurances that such incidents would not be repeated.
Nakhchivan is an Azerbaijani exclave located close to the Iranian border, making the strike particularly sensitive amid rising regional tensions.
