How Do You Even Talk to a God You Cant See or Hear?

Share

Hey, ever wonder how people chat with God when He’s not exactly sitting across the table with a coffee? I mean, you can’t see Him, can’t hear Him—how’s that supposed to work? It’s a question that pops up a lot, especially if you’re not big into the church scene or just curious about the whole faith thing. Let’s break it down like we’re grabbing a burger and hashing it out.

Prayer’s Like Texting Without the Reply Bubble

So, step one: most people “talk” to God through prayer. It’s not fancy—just you saying what’s on your mind, out loud or in your head. Maybe you’re asking for help, saying thanks, or just venting about your day. The Bible’s got this line in Matthew 6:6 where Jesus says to pray in private and talk to “your Father, who’s unseen.” No need for a megaphone—He’s supposed to hear you anyway. It’s like sending a text and trusting it got read, even if the “…” bubble doesn’t pop up.

You’ve Got to Buy the “He’s There” Part

Here’s the catch: you don’t get a “Hey, got your message!” back. That’s where faith kicks in. There’s this verse, Hebrews 11:1, that says faith is believing in stuff you can’t see—like, you’re sure God’s listening even without proof. It’s a gut thing. Ever talk to your dog and just know they get you, even though they don’t talk back? Kinda like that, but bigger. People swear they feel Him—like a calm washes over them, or something clicks later that feels like an answer. No voice, just a vibe.

God’s Got His Own Way of Chatting

Okay, but what about hearing God? Does He ever “talk” back? Well, not like your buddy calling you up. A lot of folks say He speaks through the Bible (check 2 Timothy 3:16—it’s like His user manual), or maybe through stuff that happens in life. Like, you pray about a tough choice, and then a random convo gives you the nudge you needed. Some call it the Holy Spirit, others just a hunch. It’s sneaky, not loud.

It’s a One-Way Call That Feels Two-Way

Picture this: you talk to God—maybe “Hey, I’m stressed, help me out”—and then you chill, maybe flip through a Bible, or just sit and think. Over time, you might notice little things—like a friend checks in right when you need it. Is that God? Maybe. People who’ve been at it forever, like this old-school nun Teresa of Ávila (she wrote cool stuff in Interior Castle, read it here), say it’s like hanging with a friend you can’t see but totally feel.

Does It Make Sense to Everyone? Nah.

Real talk—not everyone’s sold. If you’re like, “Sounds like talking to myself,” you’re not wrong to wonder. Without a voice or a face, it’s a leap. But for tons of people, it’s less about proof and more about trust. Like loving your grandma who lives across the country—you don’t see her, but you know she’s there.

So, How’s It Possible?

Bottom line: it works if you think God’s real, bigger than what eyes and ears can catch. You talk, He listens, and maybe He “talks” back in ways that aren’t obvious. It’s weird, sure, but kinda cool too. Ever tried it? What’s your take—does it sound doable, or still too out there?
