Copenhagen is increasing its military spending and engaging in talks with European allies as President Trump intensifies his expansionist rhetoric.

Denmark will invest 14.6 billion kroner (€1.95 billion) to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic regions, according to Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen. This comes as Trump has repeatedly sought to acquire or assert control over Greenland.

Poulsen highlighted the growing security and defence challenges in these regions and outlined the package, which will include three new Arctic naval vessels, two long-range surveillance drones, and enhanced satellite capacity.

In parallel, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is meeting with NATO allies, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, to ensure “unity” among European allies over Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory. Frederiksen stressed that in light of ongoing conflicts and shifting geopolitical realities, unity within Europe is vital.
