Casemiro Opens Up on Exit Rumors to Saudi

When Manchester United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid in 2022, they hoped his vast experience and winning mentality would transform their midfield. While the Brazilian initially made a strong impact at Old Trafford, his performances have dipped over the past season and a half, raising questions about his future.

Speculation about a potential departure had been rife, with clubs such as Al-Nassr, Besiktas, and Flamengo reportedly interested in signing him during the January transfer window. However, none of these moves materialized, and Casemiro remained at United under new manager Rúben Amorim.

Now, in a recent interview with AS, the 32-year-old has put the exit rumors to rest, making it clear that he intends to see out his contract, which runs until 2026.

When asked what he needs to do to break into Amorim’s starting XI, Casemiro responded with professionalism and determination. “I have to keep doing what I’m doing, with a lot of respect and dedication. Of course, I’d like to play more—every player wants to be on the pitch helping the team,” he said.

Despite not being a regular starter under Amorim, Casemiro emphasized his commitment to United’s cause. “I want to help the club in this difficult moment. I approach things with respect for my teammates and the coaching staff. Above all, I respect Manchester United—a club I’m very grateful to,” he added.

Addressing his long-term plans, he confirmed his desire to stay. “I have a year and a half left on my contract, and I’d like to fulfill it here in Manchester. My family and I are happy; we’ve adapted well, we speak English, and I’m grateful to the fans and the club.”

Casemiro was included in the starting XI for United’s recent 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, but his selection was largely due to the club’s injury crisis, with 12 first-team players unavailable. If United’s squad remains depleted ahead of their upcoming clash with Everton on February 22, the Brazilian could make back-to-back Premier League starts for only the second time under Amorim.
