Candace Owens is getting dragged online after dropping what she claims is newly obtained video and photos tied to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk — more than six months after he was shot on a Utah college campus.
The backlash exploded after Owens posted a graphic new camera angle of the shooting and then followed it up with images from inside the SUV used to rush Kirk to the hospital — including shots she described as a blood-stained seat and a blood-splattered paper bag.
Owens framed the release as part of her ongoing “investigative” content around Kirk’s death, which has also included a string of conspiratorial claims and pointed allegations about Kirk’s widow, Erika.
Candace Owens today SHAMELESSLY engagement-farmed footage she’s been sitting on for nearly six months of Charlie Kirk’s assassination from behind: “EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: The Footage Behind Charlie’s Head.”

In her latest upload, Owens presented video filmed from a camera positioned directly behind Kirk’s head and broke it down frame by frame, comparing her analysis to the kind of infamous, obsessive replay culture usually reserved for historic tragedies.
She also showcased photos she says came from the vehicle that transported Kirk, emphasizing the interior as “evidence” supporting her theory that key details are being hidden from the public.
Critics immediately questioned why she sat on the material for months — and why she chose to publish it now.
One X user who shared clips of Owens’ post accused her of “shamelessly engagement-farming” footage she’s allegedly had for nearly half a year. The commenter claimed there was no urgent reason it had to be released this week, arguing it looked like a calculated move to pull attention back to her content.
Others piled on with an even harsher accusation: that Owens is exploiting a death to keep her storylines alive.
Owens’ defense: “i reject this”
Owens appeared to anticipate the blowback and defended herself in a post of her own, saying she refuses to accept a world where someone can be assassinated in public and then, in her words, have their “legacy” sold off.
She claimed she’s trying to prevent Kirk’s “enemies” from controlling how his story is remembered — and suggested that her critics are essentially asking her to look away.
The uproar isn’t happening in a vacuum.
Owens has repeatedly targeted Erika since the shooting, accusing her of turning the tragedy into personal power and financial leverage — claims that have infuriated people who see the attacks as cruel and baseless.
In her YouTube “investigative series,” Owens questioned Erika’s rise within Turning Point USA and alleged it didn’t make sense on merit alone. In one episode, she pointed to the size of the organization’s fundraising and suggested Erika’s position raises red flags.
But even some people who normally follow Owens’ content said this felt different.
In the comments and reaction posts, critics argued that replaying footage of the shooting crosses a line — especially given the way Owens has publicly sparred with Erika.
One furious commenter said Owens was “doing this for clicks,” describing the release as a fresh attempt to twist the knife.
Another called her “utterly shameless,” while a third mocked the spiraling theories surrounding the case, suggesting she’s drifting deeper into conspiracy culture.
Owens, for her part, doesn’t appear to be backing down. With her series continuing — and the online backlash growing louder — it’s turning into a familiar internet cycle: outrage, doubling down, and even more attention.
The question now is whether this latest drop pushes more people away… or pulls even more viewers into the controversy she seems determined to keep alive.
