Egypt has strongly opposed U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza, with Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirming Arab states’ collective stance against the plan.
During a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Monday, Abdelatty emphasized the need to support Palestinians within Gaza, rather than forcing them out.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty made it clear that Gaza’s reconstruction must proceed with its Palestinian population remaining in place. He also called for a just and comprehensive peace in the region, aligning with long-standing Arab efforts to support Palestinian self-determination.
His comments reflect a broader regional rejection of any suggestion that Palestinians leave Gaza, a move that has been consistently opposed by Palestinian leaders and neighboring Arab states.
Since the onset of the Gaza war in 2023, Arab nations have stood against any forced displacement, arguing that such actions would deepen instability in the region.
Trump’s plan has drawn widespread condemnation, with global leaders warning that forcibly removing Palestinians from Gaza would violate international law and further escalate tensions. In an interview with Fox News, Trump confirmed that under his proposal, Palestinians would not have the right to return to Gaza, sparking further outrage.
Egypt’s foreign ministry reiterated that the international community must unite to correct historic injustices and restore the legitimate rights of Palestinians. This aligns with long-standing diplomatic efforts to secure a two-state solution, where Palestinians can establish their own independent nation.
