The entertainment world is mourning the loss of comedian and actor Alex Duong, who died at the age of 42 following a year-long battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Duong, known for his appearances on “Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle” and the long-running CBS series “Blue Bloods,” passed away Saturday morning at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. According to a close family friend, Hilarie Steele, he went into septic shock Friday night before dying at approximately 11 a.m., surrounded by family and friends.
His death comes after a difficult fight with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that he was diagnosed with last year. Duong initially sought medical attention after experiencing persistent headaches behind his eye. A subsequent biopsy revealed an aggressive tumor, leading to intensive treatment and significant health challenges, including vision complications that required him to wear an eye patch.
In the months following his diagnosis, Duong received an outpouring of support from the comedy community. In August, fellow comedians including Ronny Chieng and Atsuko Okatsuka organized “The Alex Duong Has Cancer In His Eye Comedy Benefit Show” at the Largo in Los Angeles, raising funds and awareness for his treatment.
A GoFundMe campaign, created by Steele, was also established to assist with medical expenses and his efforts to regain his vision. Following his passing, the fundraiser is now being directed toward supporting his wife, Cristina, and their five-year-old daughter, Everest.
Duong is being remembered by friends, colleagues, and fans as a dedicated performer whose humor and resilience left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife and young daughter.
