A quiet Los Angeles neighborhood turned into a scene of panic after a wild coyote suddenly attacked a 4-year-old boy right in his own driveway — and the terrifying moment was caught on camera.

The incident happened Tuesday morning in Carson as the child’s family was unloading their SUV. In a split second, the coyote appeared out of nowhere, lunged at the young boy, and began biting him.

The shocking attack left the child with puncture wounds to his leg and torso. He was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover, with officials saying his injuries were not life-threatening.

“It happened in a split second,” the boy’s grandmother said. “They only need a split second to attack, so please be aware.”

Authorities say this wasn’t an isolated incident.

According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, DNA evidence has linked the same coyote to at least one other recent attack in the area. Investigators are now looking into additional encounters, including another incident involving a child in Carson and a separate case in nearby Gardena.

The growing number of aggressive run-ins has sparked serious concern among residents and officials.

Wildlife officers are now working alongside the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to track down the animal, searching neighborhoods in hopes of capturing it before it can strike again.

While coyotes are not uncommon in Southern California and are often seen near homes, parks, and schools, officials warn that repeated exposure can make them bolder — and more dangerous.

Residents are being urged to stay vigilant, keep children and pets close, secure trash and food sources, and report any aggressive behavior immediately.
