Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said there is no immediate threat of Iranian attacks on U.S. military bases in Italy, offering reassurance amid heightened regional tensions.
“I see no danger of military attacks on Italy or on American bases, also because they are highly protected,” Tajani said. He added that Sicily is unlikely to be targeted, noting that while some missile systems reportedly reached areas such as Crete, “I don’t think they can reach Sicily, nor do I think it is in their interest.”
Tajani, who also serves as deputy prime minister, was responding to questions from a Sicilian teacher expressing concern for her students.
Italy hosts key U.S. military installations, including Sigonella in Sicily and Aviano in the northeast. The minister emphasized that Italy continues to respect international agreements while maintaining a strong defensive posture around these strategic facilities.
