Former First Lady Jill Biden is sharing a hopeful update about husband Joe Biden as the former president continues battling stage 4 prostate cancer.
Speaking on “The Jamie Kern Lima Show” podcast, Jill revealed that the 83-year-old recently underwent another round of scans — and said the results gave the family reason for optimism.
“Well, he just had scans, and they were very optimistic,” Jill said.
She also revealed that Biden’s PSA level is now zero, an encouraging sign as doctors continue treating the aggressive cancer.
“His PSA is zero, which means that the cancer’s not in the prostate anymore,” Jill explained, though she admitted the medications he must take can be “daunting.”
Despite the positive scan results, Jill made clear that the grueling cancer fight has changed her husband’s everyday life.
“He’s doing okay,” she said, adding that Biden still works “every day.”
But life is moving at a much different speed than it once did.
“There’s a different pace to life, just because of the medications and the cancer,” Jill said. “I think stage four cancer really slows you down. I’ve seen that.”
She described the ordeal as “a big change” and admitted the disease has “taken its toll.”
Biden announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer after doctors discovered a prostate nodule while investigating worsening urinary symptoms.
His cancer had already spread to his bones by the time it was detected.
Doctors gave the former president a Gleason score of 9, placing the disease in Grade Group 5, one of the most aggressive categories of prostate cancer.
However, his cancer was also found to be hormone-sensitive, meaning doctors had treatment options available to help control the disease.
Jill previously spoke about the seriousness of the diagnosis during a June appearance on the “Today” show.
“If he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, that’s one thing, because that can be cured,” she said. “But the fact that it metastasized to his bones, that makes it a whole different story.”
The former first lady also opened up about the constant worry that comes with being a caregiver.
“It’s so hard to be a caregiver in that you worry every day, ‘Is he eating right? Is he getting enough exercise? Did he have his medications?’” she said.
Their son Hunter Biden offered an even more sobering description of his father’s condition earlier this month during an interview with BBC Newsnight.
Hunter said he sometimes wishes his father would admit how much he is struggling.
“The cancer has spread. It’s metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating, in many respects.”
For now, Jill’s latest update offers a bright spot in what has become a difficult health battle for the Biden family.
While the former president is still dealing with the effects of stage 4 cancer and its treatment, Jill said his newest scans left doctors feeling “very optimistic.”
